Analytical Honeycomb Geometry for Raster and Volume Graphics

چکیده
In this paper we investigate the advantages of using hexagonal grids in raster and volume graphics. In 2D, we present a hexagonal graphical model based on a hexagonal grid. In 3D, we introduce two honeycomb graphical models in which the voxels are hexagonal prisms, and we show that these are the only possible models under certain reasonable conditions. In the framework of the proposed models, we design twoand three-dimensional analytical honeycomb geometry of linear objects, as well as of circles and spheres. We demonstrate certain advantages of the honeycomb models and address algorithmic and complexity issues.

Octree–based Volume Sculpting
A volume sculpting system is presented. The system provides tools for interactive editing of a voxel raster that is stored in an octree data structure. Two different modes of sculpting are supported: Sculpting by adding and subtracting solids, and sculpting with tools that are based on a spray can metaphor. The possibility of extending the method to support multiresolution sculpting is discusse...
متن کاملVolume Rendering
Rapid advances in hardware have been transforming revolutionary approaches in computer graphics into reality. One typical example is the raster graphics that took place in the seventies, when hardware innovations enabled the transition from vector graphics to raster graphics. Another example which has a similar potential is currently shaping up in the field of volume graphics. This trend is roo...
متن کامل3d Local Non-uniform Field Model Based on 3d Vector Model Frame
This paper proposes a model, which is called ‘3D (Three Dimension) local non-uniform field model based on 3D vector model frame’, which integrate ‘3D volume function analytical model’ and ‘3D local raster model’into the frame of ‘3D vector boundary model’, to express 3D object and local non-uniform attribute data field. In the model, the authors adopt 3D vector boundary model as basic frame, th...
متن کاملThe Laser Sensing Display
What? A modified laser projector capable of displaying over all kind of non-prepared surfaces, while simultaneously using the beam (at the same or different wavelength/polarization) as a LIDAR probe gathering information about that surface’s position, orientation and shape, texture and spectral reflectance. This information can then be used to modify the scanning trajectory in real time and aug...
متن کاملApplying OLAP Pre-Aggregation Techniques to Speed Up Query Processing in Raster-Image Databases
Aggregate functions are particularly useful when dealing with extremely large volumes of data. In business and statistical databases, aggregate queries have been leveraged by powerful methods such as On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP). In contrast, current technology for raster image databases is lagging behind. A comparative study between raster image and business databases has shown similar...
